Red opened his first car dealership in 1953. Today the automotive group is the largest in San Antonio with 10 dealerships, 2 collision repair centers, an off-road and performance custom garage, 478 service bays, and over 1,000 hardworking men and women in sales, service, and customer support
The company' mission is founded on providing extraordinary service. Red famously said "Your customers sign your paychecks," reminding employees that their income is a direct result of how well they treat customers.

Red McCombs History
Red McCombs is Texas history. Known for bringing the SPURS to San Antonio, generously giving to the University of Texas, helping create Hemisfair Park and the Tower of the Americas, Red has left a lasting legacy on our state. Red loved Texas and used to brag "I plead guilty to being a Texan."
Red McCombs Brought The SPURS to San Antonio
Red brought the Dallas Chaparrals to San Antonio in 1973 and renamed them The SPURS. Red loved sports but his driving ambition behind the SPURS was to rally the community and 'put San Antonio on the map'. Red went on to hire Coach Pop, the winningest coach in NBA history, including five NBA titles with the SPURS.
Red and Charline McCombs' Legacy of Giving
"I Plead Guilty To Being A Texan!" was among Red's favorite quotes. Red loved Texas and especially the people of San Antonio. Together with Charline, his wife of 69 years, Red supported Texas schools, research institutions and community nonprofits with nearly $200 million in charitable giving.
Through the years, Red contributed to dozens of major initiatives throughout the state and city, including:
- Creating San Antonio's Hemisfair Park and the Tower of the Americas.
- Changing the course of the San Antonio River to accommodate parks, people and the expansion of downtown.
- Envisioning and building the Circuit of the Americas outside Austin, TX, the only Formula 1 track in America.
- Support to build San Antonio's Alamodome.

Red McCombs' Award-Winning Superbowl TV Commercials
At the spry age of 91 ½ Red McCombs added to his fame by wining a TELLY AWARD for his Driven To Serve television commercial.
Since 2009 Red McCombs has launched a new TV Commercial during the Super Bowl. The Driven To Serve TV campaign has been awarded 5 Telly trophies since its inception because it demonstrated, with humor, the extremes to which Red McCombs employees go to serve their customers.
